I was pretty confident in this selection and I was right to be. It wasn’t huge odds for the treble but they all count.
Free scoring Schalke at it again.
Schalke demolished HJK Helsinki to qualify easily. Despite losing a world class keeper in Neuer, they have some attacking potential in the highly rated Klaas Jan Huntelaar and the legend that is Raul at their disposal – which makes them one to watch over this Europa League competition. I would be particularly interested in both teams to score bet as it seems they just can’t keep a clean sheet.
A club on the up.
Sevilla proved again their fragility at the back and their scoring prowess in both legs. Hannover are a dark horse. A good start to the season despite being robbed of a win at the weekend and over coming a Sevilla side with excellent European pedigree. Again, another team to look out for.
Don’t let me down now.
The only game that troubled me was Lazio. Scoring the first goal, I began to wonder if it would be another rout that mirrored the first tie. That was dismissed when they were all square at the break. With 15 minutes left I was getting edgy. They had chance after chance, all coming close to finding that winner. 2 goals in quick succession and Lazio completed the final leg of the treble. Cisse and Klose didn’t make the trip but Lazio showed some quality in the attacking players. Although you have to take into consideration the poor team in front of them.
